Obito, being an Uchiha, was naturally a fire jutsu user. The only time we see him use it however, was protecting the others from the Iwa ninja’s attack right before Rin was taken.

Obito doesn’t awaken his Sharingan until he sees Kakashi save him, at the loss of his own eye. In order to protect Kakashi in return, Obito activates it and kills their opponent.

Soon after, he and Kakashi enter the cave and fight Kakkou, an Iwa Jounin that was torturing Rin for information on their mission. With the help of Kakashi and the Sharingan, Obito’s skills in the fight are a perfect match for Kakkou and his blades, saving Rin.
